Sometimes I think we need to remind ourselves that church IS a place to have FUN, and to have FUN does not have to be complex, does not require a ton of prep or a huge budget. Fun can be simple!! Give a preschooler a few “props” and just watch their imagination go!!

The First Look “Pirate” theme has helped remind me just how much FUN and simple church can and should be! Last week when we simply tied on bandanas and passed out “gold coins”, it was amazing how their fingers quickly turned into hooks, they started talking with an accent and add “ARGH” to the end of every sentence! Before I knew it my entire environment was full of “pirates”! By the time it was “story-time” all my SGL were dressed as well! I didn’t ask them to or honestly even suggest it, but FUN is contagious! You should of heard the screams of joy when even “Ollie” was a pirate! Or seen their little faces light up when they told me “Miss Jenny, Ollie is a pirate just like us!”, it put a smile on my face for the rest of the day!

To add to our fun this summer I have had to buy another 100 bandanas, eye patches and each week we add something new to our “treasure chest” thanks to the kids imaginations! We are even going to have a “Pirate Party” on the last day to celebrate where everyone can dress as a Pirate, and of course we are going to have Pirate Booty for snack!! Fun and simple! We can’t wait! What are you doing to have FUN at church?
