Every parents loves their kids.  And every parent wants to be a better parent.

I am most successful connecting with parents when I always maintain this posture: Parents love their kids. Some parents might have better skills or tools than others, however when I choose this perspective I have greater success connecting with parents no matter where they are.

Keeping this in mind, here are 3 easy ways to connect with the parents of your few:

Make Eye Contact & Smile
Looking someone in the eye and smiling immediately creates a connection. Most parents are in the ‘Grab & Go’ mode as they come to pick up their child. But there is a chance for a 30 second connection. And that 30 seconds is worth the effort. That 30 seconds lays the groundwork for future connections.

Send them a Card
Take a few minutes each week to write a note to the parent of one of your few. Put some equity ‘change’ in your pocket by letting them know how much you care about their child and how much you are ‘for’ their family. A hand-written note card opens the door a little further, creating opportunities for future connections.

Ask them for Prayer Requests
The most successful SGLs I know will often remind parents they are praying for their few. They will make it known how parents can share anything re: their child so that SGL can pray strategically.
